Delhi High Court HC rejects Warner Bros plea
Delhi High Court rejected a plea of Hollywood production giant Warner Bros seeking stay on the release of Bollywood film 'Hari P uttar: A Comedy of Terrors'. Warner Bros, the owner of Harry Potter trademark, sought the court's intervention to restrain the producer of the film from releasing it with its present title. The plea was rejected as the Judge found that hat there is no "commonality" between the names and allowed the producer of the Bollywood film to release it as scheduled.
RIL offers to settle NTPC gas case out of court
Reliance Industries (RIL) offered an out-of-court settlement to the government-owned NTPC to resolve the dispute over gas supply from its Krishna-Godavari gas fields, off Andhra coast. Justice RY Ganoo recorded RIL's submission that a settlement was possible. The judge said both parties are at liberty to explore the option of an amicable settlement.
Govt to move impeachment motion against HC judge
With Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan recommending removal of Calcutta High Court judge Soumitra Sen on charges of financial misconduct, the Union Government is likely to soon move an impeachment motion against the judge in Parliament. The CJI had sent his recommendation to the prime minister last month after Justice Sen refused to step down despite being found guilty of misappropriating Rs 32 lakh from the receiver's account to his personal account.
RNRL may produce MoU in court
Reliance Natural Resources (RNRL) is expected to produce the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani at the Bombay High Court to be opened only by the court. The MoU was the basis of dividing Reliance assets between the Ambani siblings, and holds the key to the gas supply dispute between the brothers. Justice J N Patel had earlier asked for the gas supply master agreement to be produced in the court.
Supreme Court to decide on extending SIMI ban
The Supreme Court will hear the case of extending ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). On August 25, the apex court had extended the ban on the SIMI by six weeks. The Centre had challenged the decision of the Special Tribunal headed by Justice Geeta Mittal to lift the ban on SIMI.

Citi wins court order in battle for Wachovia
Citigroup Inc won a court order blocking Wells Fargo & Co. from buying hobbled US bank Wachovia Corp until the court rules otherwise. Citigroup, which planned to buy Wachovia's banking assets for $2.2 billion, said New York State Supreme Court Justice granted an injunction extending Wachovia's agreement to negotiate exclusively with Citigroup.
Serbia seeks UN support for World Court ruling on Kosovo
The Serbian President appealed to the UN General Assembly to back his country's call for a ruling by the International Court of Justice on Kosovo's disputed independence. Serbia has submitted a draft resolution in the 192-member assembly demanding that "the International Court of Justice (ICJ) provide an advisory opinion ... on whether the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo is in accordance with international law."
Mattel asks judge to halt production of Bratz toys
Barbie-maker Mattel Inc. filed court papers asking a federal judge to block its competitor MGA Entertainment Inc. from making or selling Bratz dolls. Attorneys for Mattel filed the papers in US District Court just over a month after a jury awarded the El Segundo-based company $100 million in damages in the fight over the pouty-lipped dolls.
